Snowmobiles
Michaywé is a residential & recreational community. Snowmobile usage is allowed in Otsego County, on the shoulder of the roads only and on designated trails.
The Michaywé Regulations are:
· Operation of snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles restricted to the right of way of the road surfaces and the plowed shoulder of the roads.
· Snowmobiles or any other motorized sport vehicle are not allowed on the golf courses or the ski area.
· Snowmobiles or any other motorized sport vehicles are not allowed on any of the cross-country ski trails.
· Memo: Violators of the above two regulations will be subject to prosecution for criminal trespass.
State and local law related to operation of a snowmobile within Michaywé includes the following provisions. A PERSON SHALL NOT OPERATE A SNOWMOBILE:
· At a rate of speed greater than is reasonable for existing conditions.
· While under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or a combination of the two.
· To exceed the posted speed of the county road on which you are riding [Memo: Most roads within Michaywé are residential (25 miles per hour). Speed limits are posted on the main roads].
· Within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling between 12 midnight and 6 am, at a speed greater than the minimum required to maintain forward movement of the snowmobile,
· In or upon the land of another without written consent of the owner or his agent.
Other provisions include:
· Must come to a complete stop at all intersections and yield the right of way to all oncoming traffic;
· Snowmobiles must ride with the flow of traffic.
· Must have a valid snowmobile registration.
· Michigan Snowmobile Trail Permit is required of all snowmobilers, resident and nonresident, and must be displayed.
· Must have headlights and taillights on at all times.
· Persons at least 12, but less than 17 years of age need the Snowmobiles Safety Education Course to operate a snowmobile off their property, or they must be under direct supervision of someone at least 21 years of age.
· Fleeing and eluding an officer is a felony offense.
